After the initial vision for Tiller Malt, Jeff began a three year process to design, build and fine tune our equipment to meet industry standard malt.

Currently, Tiller Malt uses a 500-gallon Steep tank and a 400-pound combination Germination and Kilning unit.  Semi-automatic controls allow us to closely monitor our recipes in order to meet the needs of our customers. Our small batch capability, allows for the flexibility to work with untested heirloom cereal grains to provide even more diversity in our products. We are currently expanding to a floor malting operation— with plans to have it up and running by the end of 2019!

We are the first craft malt house located in the heart of Portland, allowing us close proximity to our end customers, while still in collaboration distance to our farming partners.
